Davie Breaks Ground on $1 Billion Texas Shipyard Expansion for Coast Guard Icebreakers

Davie Defense’s $1 billion modernization of Gulf Copper’s shipyard in Galveston and Port Arthur, Texas, has begun. The expansion will support construction of five U.S. Coast Guard Arctic Security Cutters—first two built in Finland before moving to Texas—creating 2,400 direct jobs and up to 7,000 statewide jobs by 2028 amid rising Russian and Chinese activity in the Arctic.
