U.S. and Royal Canadian Navies Conclude Maritime Staff Talks, Focus on Joint Capabilities

The 2026 U.S.–Canada Maritime Staff Talks ended on Sept. 30 at U.S. Fleet Forces Command headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia. Over 45 senior leaders from the U.S. Navy and Royal Canadian Navy met to work on integrating undersea superiority, Arctic domain awareness, advanced combat systems, and personnel interoperability so that ships, submarines and aircraft can operate seamlessly from the Arctic to the Atlantic. Both navies underscored their shared commitment to readiness, defense investment and a unified command posture to safeguard the continent’s maritime domain.

Ships linked with Arctic Russia spotted in North Korea

Mid‑May 2026 the Japanese Joint Staff reported that two Russian warships escorted a fleet of six cargo vessels – Angara, Lady R, Maia‑1, Lady Mariia, Kapitan Danilkin and Lady D – on a run to North Korea. NK Pro said Angara, Lady R and Maia‑1 have routinely picked up suspected munitions at Rason in the past three years, and the ships are well known in Russian Arctic ports.
