Canada and U.S. shadow Chinese icebreakers in Arctic amid concerns over undersea data collection

Canadian and U.S. forces have tracked the Chinese icebreakers Xue Long and Xue Long 2 since they entered the U.S. EEZ in July, operating outside Canada’s jurisdiction. A Royal Canadian Air Force CP‑140 has monitored them under Operation Latitude, while frigates, coast guard ships, CCGS Des Groseilliers and Special Operations Forces shadowed the vessels.
