Canada & NWT invest $655 million for 560 affordable homes and $157 million in infrastructure

On July 27–28, the federal government and the Northwest Territories signed a $655 million package: Build Canada Homes will fund at least 560 new units (380 social, ~130 affordable, 50 transitional) and the Build Communities Strong Fund will provide up to $82.4 M for housing/post‑secondary infrastructure and $74.5 M for health services over three years. Combined commitments now cover 818 new or repaired homes amid a deficit of 1,750–2,700 units.

Aluki Kotierk Named Chair of Inuit Circumpolar Council for 2026‑2030

Former Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. president Aluki Kotierk was acclaimed as chair of the Inuit Circumpolar Council on July 25, 2026 at Iqaluit’s 15th assembly, with no other nominees.
