A letter to the editor notes that, although trawl bycatch of Chinook and chum accounted for less than 1% of Alaska’s commercial harvest last year, it still matters for depleted fisheries, especially under a seven‑year moratorium that has already caused chum closures in Yukon, Alaska, and Canada. It adds that most of this bycatch comes from Asian and Russian stocks.
