Alaska Army National Guard and Nome firefighters rescue two boaters near Arctic Circle

A UH‑60L Black Hawk crew from the 1‑168th General Support Aviation Battalion, assisted by two Nome Volunteer Fire Department EMTs, rescued two overdue boaters and their dog after their vessel became stuck in icy water about 7 mi north of the Arctic Circle, roughly 75 mi east of Kotzebue. The rescue was launched following a request from Alaska State Troopers; the boaters and dog were found sheltered in a nearby cabin, the helicopter landed in a tundra clearing, and the rescued party was taken to Kotzebue and released to Troopers. The event was reported as occurring last Tuesday.
