EU Imports Record Amounts of Russian Arctic LNG First 9 Months of 2026(opens in a new tab)
EU imported a record volume of Russian Arctic LNG during the first nine months of 2026.
Between January and September 2026, EU countries imported 12.18 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas from Russia’s Yamal SPG, a 9.5 % rise over the same period last year. The shipments, valued at €7.88 billion, were delivered mainly to EU ports—about 85 % of the project’s total output. Brussels has already barred new contracts with Russian LNG suppliers, with a complete ban set to take effect on 1 January 2027. In response, NGO Urgewald calls on the EU to tighten its sanctions regime and close loopholes that allow Arctic‑class Arc7 tankers to continue exporting LNG from the Russian Arctic.
