U.S. Coast Guard names Kodiak and Seward as homeports for new Arctic Security Cutters

The U.S. Coast Guard will homeport its first two Arctic Security Cutters in Kodiak, Alaska, and a third in Seward when infrastructure is ready. The first cutter is due 2028, the U.S.-built vessel 2029; contracts awarded to a Bollinger Shipyards‑led consortium and Rauma Marine Constructions. The $3.5 B FY25 program, backed by a U.S.–Finland icebreaker partnership, aims to close the Arctic capability gap with Russia and counter Chinese activity.
