U.S. Coast Guard Icebreaker Healy Suffers Engine Explosion and Navigation Failure During Sea Trials, Towed to Seattle

On July 13, the U.S. Coast Guard cutter Healy suffered a crankcase explosion in one engine during post‑refit sea trials off Washington’s coast, disabling its independent navigation and forcing it to be towed by Foss Maritime tug Marshall Foss back to Seattle for investigation and major repairs; no crew injuries were reported.
