Russia is expanding its ‘shadow fleet’ of tankers to carry liquefied natural gas ahead of looming supply ban

Russia has added 25 new or secondhand LNG carriers to its shadow fleet over the past six months—eight used and two built at Zvezda—to keep shipping flowing after an EU ban comes into effect on Jan 1 2027, relying on shell companies registered in Dubai, Hong Kong and Singapore.
