Locked in Arctic ice, the floating lab studying climate and wildlife

The floating laboratory Oden has been drifting through Arctic sea ice since 18 September 2026, conducting climate and wildlife research until late 2027. The latest report details the on‑board ocean‑observation tools—such as the CTD and turbulence instruments—that allow scientists to record temperature, salinity, currents and biological samples across the water column beneath the ice.
