Feds push 3 northern projects fast‑tracked under Build Canada Act

The Liberal federal government is proposing to declare the Mackenzie Valley Highway, Grays Bay Road & Port Project, and a deep geological nuclear waste repository in the Northwest Territories as national‑interest projects under the Build Canada Act. The designation could be finalized by fall 2026, potentially cutting approval time from five years to two and speeding development that may expand Arctic shipping access while unlocking natural resources.
