Denmark begins extended military conscription in response to Russia, Trump

Denmark has launched an 11‑month conscription program enrolling about 1,600 recruits—women now eligible for the first time—and will send a company of more than 100 conscripts to Greenland this month to replace professional troops. The reform adds new tracks such as a drone platoon and aims to raise annual enlistments to 7,500 by 2033 amid heightened Arctic security tensions linked to Russia and U.S. President Donald Trump’s annexation claims.
