Creation of cloud-forming aerosols varies across the Arctic(opens in a new tab)
Scientists note that aerosol production varies across the Arctic, leading to uncertainty in cloud formation processes.
A recent study indicates that warming will cause the concentrations of cloud‑forming aerosols in the Arctic to rise in some regions and fall in others, depending on local conditions.
Scientists note that aerosol production varies across the Arctic, leading to uncertainty in cloud formation processes.
A new study reveals that warming will raise cloud‑forming aerosols in ice‑covered High Arctic areas but likely reduce them in open maritime waters, while continental aerosol levels hinge more on future pollution levels. The analysis, based on 20+ years of data from eight stations and satellite observations, was led by the University of Helsinki’s INAR and the Finnish Meteorological Institute.
