Chronic conditions persist in Alaska, but there are bright spots in latest health report

Alaska’s 2026 Healthy Alaskans assessment finds 185 k adults with high blood pressure and 167 k with high cholesterol, while Indigenous residents’ life expectancy sits at 67.6 years—10 years below the U.S. average—and infant mortality among Alaska Natives remains at 13 per 1,000 births. Yet prenatal‑care coverage climbed from 39 % in 2008 to 67 % in 2024 and state high‑school graduation rose from 68 % to 78 %. The report signals persistent chronic conditions but growing gains in key health and education metrics.
