China completes first cross‑regional satellite internet test linking Arctic, Antarctica and Qinghai‑Tibet Plateau

China’s 16th Arctic Ocean expedition team reported that its polar icebreaker Jidi completed a pre‑operational test of domestic satellite internet, creating a continuous link between the ship in the Arctic, Qinling Station in Antarctica, a test site on the Lhasa River, and a ministry bureau in Qingdao. The test verified voice, video and data transfer under harsh polar conditions and supported more than 40 video consultations and over 100 GB of data transmission, marking the first use of Chinese satellite internet for polar medical support.
