Aluki Kotierk Named Chair of Inuit Circumpolar Council for 2026‑2030

Former Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. president Aluki Kotierk was acclaimed as chair of the Inuit Circumpolar Council on July 25, 2026 at Iqaluit’s 15th assembly, with no other nominees. She will serve a four‑year term (2026‑2030), also chairs the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, and will push the ICC’s declaration urging governments to uphold the UN Declaration on Indigenous Rights and address land claims, identity fraud, travel barriers, artifact repatriation and climate change.
